Spencer will be competing in this week’s Wales Rally GB. It will enter the national category of the country’s biggest annual event and World Rally Championship qualifier under its sporting division Spencer Sport.

During the working day Spencer performs a wide range of land management tasks: from groundworks for wind and solar installations, clearing sites in readiness for a construction project, or bioenergy production and tree management services in one of Wales’ many forests. This connection with the principality’s extensive woodland areas has seen the company expand its activities into rallying, which traditionally takes place on the labyrinth of gravel tracks that wind their way between the extensive plantations.

Managing Director of Spencer ECA, Jamie Jukes– a former National Hunt Champion Jockey – is the driver of the team’s rally-prepared Suzuki Swift and, with experienced co-driver David Williams alongside him, the team is confident that it can challenge for success in the two-wheel-drive class.

“We launched our team earlier this year and have been delighted with how things have gone this season”, said Jamie. “We were pleasantly surprised that we were on the pace of many of the others in our class, so we are hoping that the development of the car and the experience we’ve gained will stand us in good stead for our most challenging event of the season.”

Jamie goes onto explain the reason why Spencer sport was created: “We are passionate about the sport as a whole and the decision to go rallying was an easy one to make. Because we have a strong business connection with the forests we work in during the week we can now compete in them at the weekends. This has helped us draw attention to the forestry services we provide, along with many of the other operation we perform, as well as promote our supporting motorsport partners.”

To further endorse the Welsh connection, one of the team’s motorsport partners Oil4Wales is also committed to sport and has nominated a number of the Welsh International Rugby players as its Brand Ambassadors. These high profile sportsmen include: Hooker Ken Owens, Centre Johnathan Davies and Flanker Dan Lydiate.

In keeping with this sporting ethos, Spencer also runs a weekly competition to win tickets to see Ospreys Rugby and Swansea City play at their home venue, the Liberty Stadium.

Spencer Sport would like to thank it’s motorsport partners: Oil4Wales, Braces Bakery, Reeds Construction & Engineering, Spencer ECA and Rugbi Industrial Supplies for their support.

Spencer Sport

A division of Spencer ECA, Spencer Sport has been created to bring the passion, excitement and competitive edge. As well as its rally team, there are other sporting activities in which Spencer is involved. These include the sponsorship of rugby teams local to the company in South Wales, together with an interest in the region’s two biggest professional rugby and football teams: Ospreys and Swansea City, with Spencer regularly running competitions to win tickets to see their matches at the Liberty Stadium.
