Established in 1991, initially as Spencer Environmental Care and Construction, the company has evolved over the years to become one of the most respected operators in the land maintenance and groundworks sector, building itself a reputation which has seen it working with many multi-national corporations, government agencies, local authorities, civil and utility companies, as well as smaller, private operations.
When its founder David Spencer announced his semi-retirement in 2002, his long-time associates Jamie Jukes, owner of Special Branch – tree and site clearance specialists - and Jonathan Davis of A Cut Above Landscapes, amalgamated their resources. At that point the company name was modified to Spencer Environmental Care Associates - better known nowadays as Spencer ECA.
Currently, the company operates from three strategically-based locations in Wales: Llandysul (Head office), Newtown and the most recently acquired Swansea site. Although much of its work has been in Wales, its increasing list of clients, expanding range of environmental management services and growing reputation sees Spencer working on more and more sites all over the UK.
Its wide range of services includes all aspects of construction industry support services and environmental management. Spencer also specialises in arboriculture work, the management and control of vegetation and a wide range of land-based operations. More recently it has become involved with the renewable energy sector helping to create many of the UK’s wind and solar farm installations. Spencer is also a major provider of bio-energy products.
Always evolving, Spencer continually invests in its resources and now employs a workforce of more than 50, all of which are qualified for the jobs they do and hold the appropriate industry skills accreditation.
Spencer is proud of its reputation – an accolade built on customer care, quality of work, efficient methods and attention to detail. It has regularly completed work ahead of deadlines, within budget and, on many occasions, helped get clients out of trouble when other contractors have let them down.
Spencer adopts rigid health & safety and environmental policies, minimising the risk to personnel and the effect of its ecological footprint. Consequently, it uses sustainable resources wherever possible. Its systems ensure work is carried out in a clean and efficient manner, with all waste and by-products removed from site for recycling.
